Adelaide South Family
Families across Adelaide’s south can join baby and preschool sessions, borrow toys and sports gear, explore youth activities or find thoughtful support close to home. From Aldinga and Seaford to Noarlunga, Hackham and Morphett Vale, there are practical opportunities for children, young people, parents and carers to play, learn and connect.
📚 Libraries, play and early learning
City of Onkaparinga Libraries – Children and youth programs
Library branches in Aldinga, Aberfoyle Park, Noarlunga Centre, Seaford, Willunga and Woodcroft offer activities for different ages. Babytime welcomes babies from birth to 18 months, Toddlertime is for children aged 18 months to three years, and Storytime is designed for ages three to five. Selected branches also run after-school creative, technology, gaming, Lego and reading activities for older children and young people. Check whether adult or carer supervision applies to your chosen session. School-holiday activities require bookings.
City of Onkaparinga Libraries – Toy and Sports Libraries
Borrowing can make it easier to rotate children’s play equipment or try a new family activity without buying everything. Library members can borrow toys from the Hub, Seaford and Woodcroft libraries. Sports and fitness equipment is available at Aldinga, the Hub, Seaford and Woodcroft. Membership is free for South Australian residents, while anyone aged 17 or younger needs a parent or guardian to register them.
Hackham West Children’s Centre – Learning Together Playgroup
Families with children aged five and under can take part in this free term-time playgroup on Mondays from 1.30 pm to 2.45 pm. Play, stories and songs support early literacy, numeracy, social-emotional skills and motor development. The group meets in the Children’s Centre unit, with entry through the Hackham West Primary School front office.
Morphett Vale East Kindergarten – Playgroup
Children from birth until they start school can attend this free Monday playgroup with their family. It runs from 9.30 am to 11 am, except on the first day of each term. As well as playing together and meeting other parents, children can become familiar with the kindergarten environment before they begin preschool.
Southern Vales Christian College Early Learning Centre – Family Playtime
Family Playtime is available at the college’s Morphett Vale and Aldinga Beach early learning centres each Wednesday from 8.30 am to 10 am. Children participate alongside a parent or carer, making it a shared early-years activity rather than a drop-off session. Families need to register before attending.
Woodcroft Morphett Vale Neighbourhood Centre – Playgroups
Monday and Wednesday playgroups run from 10 am to 11.30 am, with activities and singing for children and opportunities for accompanying adults to connect. Bookings are essential. The listed charge is $3 per child, capped at $5 per family, and families are asked to bring a piece of fruit.
Junction Australia – Nature Play Group
At Seaford Meadows Scout Hall, children can engage in unstructured, child-led outdoor play using natural materials found in the setting. Admission is by gold-coin donation, with donations supporting Seaford Meadows Scouts. Places must be booked through Junction before attending.
✨ School-age, youth and social activities
Onkaparinga Youth
Young people aged eight to 25 can access council activities spanning recreation, arts, skills, leadership and wellbeing. The current mix includes school-holiday activities, life-skills workshops for ages 14–25, and free sport and recreation programs delivered with the Roger Rasheed Sports Foundation. Families can review individual activities for dates, locations, age ranges and registration arrangements.
Diverse Learning – The Mix South and Lego Club South
These Hackham and Christies Beach groups combine shared interests with supported social participation for autistic children and their families. The Mix South is a creative social-skills group generally intended for ages 10–14. Lego Club South offers social Lego play and is generally for ages four to 12. The provider notes some age flexibility, so contact Diverse Learning to discuss suitability and current arrangements.
Junction Australia – Kids and Dads
Kids and Dads brings children together with dads, step-dads, foster carers, grandfathers and other male role models for supported play and learning activities at Hackham Community Centre. It is a Communities for Children activity delivered in collaboration with AnglicareSA and Uniting Communities.
🌱 Parenting and family connection
AnglicareSA – Communities for Children Onkaparinga
Local families with children aged 0–12 can access free activities focused on early childhood development, starting school, family engagement and community connection. No referral is required: families can contact the program directly, although referrals from other agencies are also accepted.
Uniting Communities – Parenting courses and groups
Free courses and groups are offered regularly in suburbs around the organisation’s Noarlunga office. Options include the six-week Bringing Up Great Kids program, eight-week Circle of Security courses—including a dads-only option—a workshop for dads, and individual conflict-coaching appointments. Parents and carers register their interest in upcoming sessions and can request online or in-person attendance, during business hours or after hours.
💛 Development, wellbeing and specialist support
headspace Onkaparinga
Based in Christies Beach, headspace provides free and confidential support for young people aged 12–25. Its areas of support include mental health, physical and sexual health, alcohol and other drugs, and assistance with work or study. Young people, relatives, friends, health workers and community agencies can make a referral, and attendance is voluntary. The Sonder-operated centre may be able to arrange an interpreter when requested in advance.
Let’s Play SA! Therapeutic Services
This Reynella practice provides child-centred play therapy alongside counselling, family and relationship counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness, psychoeducation and capacity-building support. Parents and carers can contact the practice to discuss the needs of a child or another family member and identify an appropriate next step.
The Yellow Gate
Located in Noarlunga Centre, The Yellow Gate offers free, confidential domestic, family and sexual violence recovery and prevention support for women aged 15 and over. It serves eligible women living in southern metropolitan Adelaide, including the City of Onkaparinga and City of Marion, who are not in immediate danger or seeking emergency accommodation. No referral is needed; women may call or attend for counselling, information, advocacy, referrals and selected group programs.
